Soneva Jani announces 85 new career opportunities

Luxury resort Soneva Jani announced 85 new job openings as part of its Chapter Two expansion.

The opportunities include 18 positions in housekeeping, 16 openings for butler roles, two in the water sports department, two boat crew, six in the LIFE team, one reservations agent, two gift shop assistants, two airport hosts, an assistant food and beverage manager, three destination managers, eight other roles on the food and beverage team, 10 positions on the engineering team, and 14 in the kitchen team.

Although individuals from all nationalities are welcome to apply, Soneva Jani stated that priority will be given to Maldivians as part of Soneva’s SLOWLIFE core purpose.

"This has been a very hard year for Maldives tourism and for tourism globally generally, so we are very happy to present this opportunity to provide almost 100 jobs on the back of one of the worst crises that the world has seen in living memory", stated Sonu Shivdasani, Co-Founder, CEO and Joint Creative Director of Soneva.

Soneva expressed its aim of being the best employer in Maldives and offer employees a wide range of benefits, in addition to career opportunities and progression.

Additionally, Soneva emphasized its commitment to empowering female employees with a safe and secure working environment. According to the company, raising the level of female employment to 30 percent at both Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani by 2021 was a key goal. These figures currently stand at 16 percent and 20 percent, respectively.

At present, 25 percent of female staff at Soneva Fushi and 28 percent of women at Soneva Jani are in management positions.

The following measures are implemented by Soneva in an effort to reach targets for female employment.

- Offering female-only accommodation, quarters and facilities

- Arrangement of a minimum of one female-only activity per month for employees

- Welcoming female employees in senior positions with families and children to live with them on-site

- Conducting gender awareness training for all employees

- Conducting women’s apprenticeship programmes to enable more women to find suitable roles at Soneva and the Maldivian tourism industry

-Covering the cost of unlimited online job development training through Massive Open Online Courses

- Welcoming family members of female employees to visit the resorts to see their accommodation and working areas. They are also invited to talk to the management to discuss any questions or concerns.

- Implementing strong structures, processes and training in the areas of appropriate behaviour and a zero-tolerance over harassment

Soneva recently released a video by acclaimed French film director Bruno Aveillan as part of its 25 years campaign. It acknowledges the contribution of some of the hosts at Soneva Fushi.

Soneva’s Guardian of Host Engagement Joanne Bowen stated that "Soneva is committed to promoting equality and diversity within our resorts. We pride ourselves on promoting career opportunities for women, setting specific goals for our female employment ratio and launching initiatives that will encourage the current and future generations of women in the Maldives and Thailand to pursue rewarding careers within the hospitality industry".

Located on the island of Medhufaru in Noonu Atoll, Soneva Jani is 35 minutes from Velana International Airport via seaplane. The recently inaugurated Maafaru International Airport in Noonu Atoll is a 15-minute speedboat ride from Soneva Jani.
