Police have said that 14 arrests have been made to date in a major drug operation being carried out in Fuvahmulah since May 1st.
Police have said that 14 arrests have been made to date in a major drug operation being carried out in Fuvahmulah since May 1st.
The operation, named 'Veshi Rakkal' [Safe community] is being run with the aim of creating a drug free society in the island.
Under this operation, Police said they are identifying persons smuggling drugs onto the island, and those who are involved in the sale of these, with many premises having been searched during the process.
Police revealed that to date, 14 persons have been arrested within this operation, with 5 currently in custody.
They also said that 760.45 grams of drugs have been seized so far in the operation.
Last Tuesday, a major altercation occurred while Police were working to arrest some persons under this operation. As a result, Police placed under arrest a number of persons accused of obstructing the duties of Police, as well as those inciting violence while gathering outside the Police Station. One police officer was injured in this unrest.
