In order to produce electricity to power capital Male through solar energy, solar panels are set to be constructed by the side of the Sinamale Bridge Link Road.
The project is an initiative to reduce fuel costs under the Accelerating Sustainable Private Investments in Renewable Energy (ASPIRE) project by Government and World Bank. Under this, five megawatts of electricity would be generated.
Ministry of Finance is currently seeking a contractor for the project.
The contractor would have to take up responsibility to construct, operate and power the panels by the side of the link road that stems between Sinamale Bridge and reclaimed suburb Hulhumale.
The bid has been opened until the March 14.
Moreover, 16 million dollars has been given to the ASPIRE project that’s been running in Maldives, including in capital Male.
In the first phase of the ASPIRE project, 1.5-megawatt solar panels were constructed in 1,000 housing units in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale and the panels are operational in generating electricity as of last year.
ASPIRE project will generate 20 megawatts of electricity through solar energy in Maldives.
