The second round of the largest hackathon held in Maldives, 'AngelHack', hosted by local telecom giant Dhiraagu in collaboration with Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and Spark Hub, commenced on Saturday.

This year's AngelHack, themed 'Innovators Rising', is a platform for web developers, designers and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) owners to showcase their skills to the world.

Over 150,000 participants from 150 cities all over the globe have benefited from the hackathon, which is scheduled to take place in six continents in 2019.

According to Dhiraagu, AngelHack participants will gain invaluable experience and a chance to fuel and develop innovative ideas.

"With our focus on a Digital Raajje, Dhiraagu is supporting this programme to provide an opportunity for our entrepreneurial youth to help convert their innovative ideas into sustainable business models”, said CEO and Managing Director of Dhiraagu, Ismail Rasheed.

The main aim of hosting this hackathon is to inculcate start-up culture within the Maldivian youth and provide innovative digital solutions, Dhiraagu said.

AngelHack aims to score over 300 participants within a period of four months.

The winner of AngelHack will be awarded the chance to participate in the 'Hackcelerator' programme and will be aided by international mentors from Silicon Valley in San Francisco, to convert their projects and ideas to functional start-ups.

Founded in 2011 in San Francisco, USA, AngelHack is a global organisation through which developers, designers and entrepreneurs can become holistic hackers through programmes that solve issues ranging from business to social impact.

The hackathon is held in various cities every year, during which participants compete to built and launch new software solutions, with the winning team from each city invited to join the AngelHack Accelerator programme.
