Govt services to be provided directly from Hulhumalé and Vilimalé

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assured that government services available from Malé will be made available from Villlimalé and Hulhumalé as well, eliminating the need to travel to Malé for these needs.

Speaking at Malé City Council's office during his visit there to meet with the council members, President Muizzu said that ID card, passport and other services offered by the government will be arranged from Vilimalé and Hulhumalé.

He further said that a land plot has been allocated for the City Council in Vilimalé to construct a building where these services can be provided from. If the council lacks budget to develop this building, the project can be funded following discussions with the Cities and Local Governance Ministry, he added.

"That way all services can be brought under one roof without needing to go to Malé for all services and counters. Similarly, I plan to establish the counters in Hulhumalé as well," the President said.

"A lot of people come from Hulhumalé to Malé, much more than from Vilimalé, everyday for many services. A counter service centre with all these services will also hopefully be set up in Hulhumalé."

According to the President, these services are being provided to alleviate the troubles borne by the public in having to travel to Malé each time they need government services, and to reduce the traffic congestion in Malé City during office hours.

"This will be a huge ease on the traffic movement. Reasons for using the bridge will be less, when residents of Hulhumalé are able to get all these services from Hulhumalé itself," said President Muizzu, adding that this project would require the full cooperation of the city council.

The President also said that more schools are now being built in Hulhumalé to reduce traffic congestion. A total of 22 schools, including those which are currently in operation, are needed for the growing population in Hulhumalé, he said.

As such, at least seven schools will be built in Hulhumalé within the next four years, the President said.
