Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid flies to New York to be officially sworn in as President of United Nation's (UN) General Assembly on Sunday. He was elected for this position on June 7.
Shahid said the preparations were currently underway for the first session of the 76th General Assembly, which will be held of September 14. To ensure a smooth transition from the previous cabinet, he was holding meetings member nations of UN in addition to the UN Secretariat and other stakeholders as well.
Shahid flew to USA after completing an official trip to Japan.
While he was in Japan, he had met with their Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. Shahid had discussed what work he will be undertaking once he is instated as the President of UN General Assembly.
