Three ministries which were impacted by the fire which engulfed M. Green Building which housed multiple government offices have been temporarily moved to Dharubaaruge.

The fire first broke out in the Housing Ministry section of the building at around 06:30 am yesterday. It then spread to the Construction Ministry and the adjacent Environment Ministry.

By the time the fire was extinguished four hours later, the whole building was burnt to the ground.

A Housing Ministry official confirmed today that the ministry's work is being temporarily shifted to Dharubaarge and that the move is expected to be completed by 10:00 pm tonight.

With Housing Development Corporation (HDC)'s assistance, the other two ministry's are also in the process of moving to Dharubaaruge, with a temporary office set up.

This comes as flat evaluation work is already taking place at Dharubaaruge.

Along with the ministries, Malé City Council's vital registration office was also affected by the fire. However, the office's work has been shifted to Hulhumalé instead.

Dharubaaruge, which was built 34 years ago at the initiative of former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom to host the fifth SAARC Summit, has often been used by the government in emergency situations. The most recent notable situation it was used was during the Covid-19 pandemic, where Dharubaaruge was set up as the 'National Emergency Operation Center' (NEOC).

Since its initial establishment in 1990, Dharubaaruge has been extended with a new modern building. The SAARC Summit took place back then in the current main Dharubaaruge hall.
