Chef murder case trial expected to conclude in October

The prosecution has charged Sri Lankan national Jayalath Kodiarchige Janaka Prasanna Perera with the murder of the chef in 2019. The case is currently being tried at the Criminal Court, and Jayalath remains in police custody.

Criminal Court justice in the case of a Sri Lankan national accused of stabbing another Sri Lankan coworker to death five years ago at a resort in Dhaalu atoll, Ellaidhoo, stated that he will try to decide the case in October.

The prosecution has charged Sri Lankan national Jayalath Kodiarchige Janaka Prasanna Perera with the murder of the chef in 2019. The case is currently being tried at the Criminal Court, and Jayalath remains in police custody.

At the hearing held in the Criminal Court today, Justice Ibrahim Ihsan acknowledged that the case was not progressing swiftly due to limited court resources. However, he expressed his intention to settle the case by October.

Justice Ihsan ordered a decision regarding taking the testimony of six out of seven Sri Lankan witnesses, who are currently abroad. He stated that the prosecution should decide whether their testimonies were necessary.

During today's hearing, the testimony of a police officer who was present at the scene of the murder was recorded.
