Police said that 349 grams of substances suspected to be drugs were found in his possession upon his arrival on Monday via Sri Lankan Airlines.
A 65-year-old Maldivian man, Abdulla Sodiq, has been remanded in custody for 15 days after being arrested for smuggling drugs into the Maldives.
Sodiq, originally from Hithadhoo, Addu City was apprehended at Velana International Airport.
Police said that 349 grams of substances suspected to be drugs were found in his possession upon his arrival on Monday via Sri Lankan Airlines.
Following his arrest, the court ordered him to be placed in remand for 15 days.
Authorities, including the police and Maldives Customs, are actively detaining individuals attempting to smuggle drugs into the country. On Wednesday, Customs also seized drugs from an air cargo shipment and a postal package, with the substance testing positive for heroin, synthetic cathinone, cannabis, and ecstasy.
