Maldives Customs Services have seized a large quantity of drugs smuggled into the country by air.
According to Customs, the narcotics was confiscated from a 20-year-old Pakistani female who arrived in Maldives on Saturday.
A total of 4.7 kg of drugs, valued at MVR 5.8 million, were recovered from her possession during a search of her luggage.
Tests confirmed that the substance was heroin. The accused has been handed over to the police, Customs said.
Many Pakistanis have been arrested on charges of smuggling drugs into the Maldives by air. Police have previously said that some of the individuals caught with narcotics are individuals suffering from serious illnesses in need of long term treatment.
