Yameen's Fuhgiri trial hearing was cancelled, but his Aarah trial hearing is still scheduled for Wednesday.
Former President Abdulla Yameenhearing in the case of Raa atoll's Fuhgiri island, which was originally scheduled for tomorrow was cancelled today.
In this case Yameen is being charged with accepting and laundering USD one million in bribe during the leasing process of Fuhgiri. A hearing was scheduled for tomorrow in the case after a long hiatus, but was cancelled today.
According to the Criminal Court, the cancellation is due to some witnesses being unable to be present in court tomorrow.
Although this hearing was cancelled, another trial concerning Vaavu atoll Aarah is still scheduled to be held this coming Wednesday. In this case, Yameen and former Felidhoo MP Yoosuf Naeem were previously sentenced to 11 years in prison, but the High Court earlier quashed the sentence and ordered for a retrial.
Besides Yameen, the prosecution is also suing Sun Construction Company and Sun Engineering Company in the Fuhgiri case.
