The State Minister of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure (MNPHI), and the chairman of the Flat Committee, Akram Kamaluddin, has reassured the public that they are diligently working to release the final list of housing flat winners under the "Gedhoruveriya" scheme.
The Ministry's initial attempt to release the entire final list during June faced interruption due to the extended public holidays coinciding with Eid Al-Adha. Consequently, the Ministry was only able to release the housing plot list before Eid holidays.
The delays in publicizing the final list of flat winners have drawn significant public and political criticism.
In response to public complaints over the delays, Akram addressed the issue via a tweet, assuring the public that the final list will be made available before the end of July.
A significant number of 26,000 people applied for housing flats under the Gedhoruveriya scheme. Among the applicants, 14,400 individuals had applied for three-bedroom apartments, while 6,200 had applied for two-bedroom apartments.
In addition to the housing flats, a total of 23,088 people applied for land plots under the Gedhoruveriya scheme. Out of the total applications for land plots, 12,794 were considered eligible, including 19,858 individuals when accounting for joint applicants.
Previously, the Maldives government had announced the issuance of 5,000 land plots from the Greater Malé region. However, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih later clarified that all eligible parties would receive housing flats or plots. He further reassured the public that the plots would be handed over to the winners no later than August 2023.
