Dengue on the rise, 320 reported cases in April

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) of the Maldives has reported that cases of dengue fever rose significantly in April 2023.

According to statistics from the agency, a total of 320 cases were reported last month which is an increase of 151 cases compared to the previous month.

In addition to dengue fever, there has been an increase in influenza cases, with a total of 609 patients tested thus far. Out of those tested, 75 individuals have tested positive for the virus.

While cases of common cold, diarrhea, and Covid-19 initially increased at the beginning of April, they later decreased by the end of the month. In March, a total of 37,969 cases of these diseases were reported. However, in April, the total number of cases decreased to 29,970 cases.

Meanwhile, HPA has cautioned the public to take preventive measures against common cold and Covid-19.

Preventive Measures against Common Cold and Covid-19

- Cover the nose and mouth while coughing and sneezing

- Properly wash and clean hands using soap or sanitizers

- Avoid going to crowded or high contact places if suffering from cold

- If symptoms worsen, consult a doctor in a timely manner and administer vaccine against influenza

- Active use of hand sanitizers

The Maldives has recorded a total of 186,526 cases of Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic, resulting in 314 fatalities.
