Giyas appointed as Chairperson of MMPRC

Abdulla Giyas has been appointed to the post of Chairperson of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Giyas is the President of the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO). He has extensive experience in the tourism sector.

The post of MMPRC Chairperson was earlier filled by Aisha Nurain Janah. She resigned from the post due to a difference in opinion with MMPRC's Managing Director at the time, Fathimath Thaufeeq.

Thaufeeq was later dismissed from her post.

Later, Ibrahim Shiuree was appointed as Managing Director of MMPRC. Since assuming the post, Shiuree has brought some organizational changes within the corporation.

As such, the corporation's board dismissed Deputy Managing Director Bassam Adam and Chief Corporate Officer Ibrahim Asim. The post of Chief Marketing Officer was also dissolved. The person who last served in this position had resigned earlier in April.

Shiuree told Mihaaru News that the corporation is undergoing an organizational restructuring to better streamline its functions. The dismissals were decisions made through this restructuring.

He said that the persons filling those posts shared the same duties and responsibilities, making it redundant to have that many posts.
