The Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has announced the party's primary elections to determine their candidate for the presidential election scheduled for September 9.
According to MRM, the voting for the party primary elections will be held on August 1, 2023.
While MRM has announced its primary elections, Faris Maumoon, the party's leader and the son of former Maldives president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, is currently in the process of clearing his police record. This is a necessary requirement that needs to be fulfilled when submitting the candidacy form for the upcoming primary elections.
The announcement of the party's primary comes amidst ongoing discussions between MRM and the Jumhooree Party (JP) regarding a potential alliance and the possibility of fielding a unified candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.
