President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has flown to Singapore last night for a check up in relation to a surgery he had a couple of years ago, and an injury he sustained while playing football recently.

The President's Office said that the President, accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, has departed to Singapore on Monday night.

Prior to the trip, President Muizzu rejected the rumours circulating on social media about his health status.

He said that he had visited Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital a few nights ago due to an injury sustained in a football match played in Aarah.

Rumours on social media first said that the President had received a head injury through a fall in the bathroom at Aarah. Later, it was said that he was leaving to Singapore with severe migraines after the event at Majeedhiya School on Sunday night.

"Even though I'm not a particularly sporty person, I try to play football thrice a week at the grounds in Aarah. I got a small injury from something that happened the last time I played," he said.

He said that he had consulted with doctors in Maldives, and is going to Singapore for a second opinion, and for a regular check up related to a surgery undergone a few years ago.

He will be in Singapore for two days.
