The Presidential Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes, on Wednesday, published the provisional list of eligible applicants for category H7 under the Hiyaa Public Housing Scheme, which is allocated for married people between the ages of 18 to 40.

According to the committee, provisional list 1 and list 2 of eligible applicants for the H7 category were published in the national gazette. The lists mention the details of applicants that the committee was unable to contact in order to conduct a physical evaluation of current living conditions.

The Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes also stated that a separate list was published pertaining to candidates that did not meet the eligibility requirements. The list also includes the reasoning for disqualification.

Any individual that wishes to dispute the list can submit their complaints via the official 'Hiyaa Complaints Portal' at hcp.presidency.gov.mv before the deadline of 1500 hrs on December 13. The committee will also accept further inquiries via telephone at 3010718.

The committee has already publicised the temporary lists for housing categories allotted for doctors and nurses (H4), teachers (H5), single parents (H6), residents of capital Male' (H8), long-time residents of Male' that are not registered in or own property in the capital city (H9), and persons with disabilities and their families (H10).

Following the publication of the H7 list, local organisation 'Aamunge Ekuveri Gulhun' stated that 655 individuals that secured flats during the previous administration were unfairly excluded from the list.

'Aamunge Ekuveri Gulhun' called on the government to clarify the criteria under which 655 applicants previously guaranteed flats were excluded as well as the guideline used to judge the eligibility of the individuals that secured state housing in their place.

The organisation's temporary president particularly expressed concern regarding how the 30 percent of points allocated for current living conditions were awarded.

Speaking at the parliament on Wednesday, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam asserted that the listing had changed following the process of reevaluating and ensuring the validity of information initially provided by applicants. He went on to add that the details of the review process were included in the provisional list issued by the parliamentary committee.

Initiated during the government of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the Hiyaa Project comprises the development of 7,000 flats, in the form of 16 towers of 25-storeys each, in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale's second phase.

Although the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) administration had issued a list of recipients, allegations of corruption and unjust distribution prompted the current government to form a committee to probe the issue and release a revised list.

Over 25,000 people were reported to have initially applied to purchase flats from the Hiyaa project.
