Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revoked its announcement regarding the recruitment of expatriate workers for administrative roles within the police institution and seeking a party within a government agency to handle all related tasks concerning expatriate workers.

Following the tender announcement, it was abruptly revoked on Sunday following a statement made by Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan to the press last night. Shifan said that the police had opted to prioritize Maldivian nationals [for recruitment of people for such jobs].

While the announcement was made to hire expatriates for administrative roles, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan stated last week that the government does not wish to extend employment opportunities for expatriates, particularly within organizations responsible for security services.

The Minister said that there will be no expatriates within police premises providing official services.

In response to inquiries regarding the announcement of hiring expatriates for the police department, the spokesperson of MPS said that it was a routine announcement aimed at recruiting expatriates for various tasks conducted within police stations.

Minister Ihusan said that the government aimed to minimize the employment of expatriates within government institutions and measures have been implemented to decrease the expatriate workforce and oversee their engagements in the country.
