Singapore Airlines has officially commenced Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner services to Maldives.

The Dreamliner is one of the world's most prominent air crafts, noted for its luxury, efficiency and exceptional environment performance.

The 30 seats in business class of the air craft will feature fully flat-beds and feature the option to order a meal of your choice before boarding the flight.

Additionally, the economy class is equipped with all facilities provided by a full-service carrier, including baggage storage, entertainment options, and meals.

The daily direct Dreamliner air craft will follow a new route with a flight duration of four and a half hours and will fly directly from Singapore International Airport to Velana International Airport (VIA).

These newly launched services were made possible by the Open Skies Agreement (OSA) signed between Singapore and Maldives on July 1 to further expand the connectivity between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on the sidelines of a state visit to Singapore.

"[The agreement] underscores the strong bilateral ties between Singapore and Maldives, and will enable greater movement of people and goods between the two countries to benefit both our economies", said Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Transport Lam Pin Min.

As per the agreement, Maldives and Singapore can operate as many passenger flights or cargo services between two countries and also to a third country, using fifth freedom rights.

Although Singapore has been operating direct services between the island nation since 1984, this is the first time that flights are operating under an OSA utilising a Boeing Dreamliner.

Singapore currently operates three Airlines to the Maldives including their budget Airlines, Silk Air and FlyScoot in addition to their flag carrier, Singapore Airlines.
