In January, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that China President Xi Jinping had agreed to facilitate the easiest manner possible for Maldives to repay its debt to China.
In yesterday's Public Accounts Committee meeting, an MP asked the MMA Deputy Governor to elaborate on the leniencies granted under this arrangement.
"So far, we have not received any official information indicating China has restructured the loans due to them," Imad responded.
At the time, the President stated that a financial team from China would be arriving in the Maldives soon to organize the matter.
“This will give us a lot of relief in terms of loan repayment as well,” the President said then.
