President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the salaries of Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) personnel will will be revised, while plans are underway for the development of additional flats.

Speaking at the MNDF anniversary celebrations held at the Kalhuthuhkalaa Koshi, President Solih highlighted the positive impact of the pay harmonization process on the army and police.

President Solih said that the Pay Commission is actively conducting studies to facilitate the revision in salaries for MNDF personnel. The government's commitment to addressing the housing needs of MNDF officers was also highlighted, with plans underway to construct additional flats. As part of these plans, a 138-unit building is scheduled to be built in Hulhumalé 2, with construction planned to commence later this year.

President Solih further added that bids will be opened for the construction of two additional buildings in Kalhuthuhkalaa Koshi, with a capacity of accommodating 480 and 100 individuals, respectively.

While additional housing units are being planned for MNDF, there have been significant delays in the development of housing units in Hulhumalé by the army's welfare company, Sifainge Co-operative (SIFCO).

Despite the project facing significant delays since its foundation stone was laid in 2014, President Solih has stated that efforts are now being made to expedite the completion of the SIFCO Hiyaa building. Defense Minister Mariya Didi has assured that the housing units will be completed in the coming month.

President Solih said that these initiatives will strengthen the operational capacity for MNDF and mentioned that several projects are already taking place across the country, highlighting the ongoing land reclamation for the Ektha Harbour at Kaafu atoll Sifavaru.
