The man has been fined and the vehicle impounded for 30 days.
A man who let his child take control of the motorcycle they were on while on the Sinamalé Bridge has been fined by authorities.
A video that circulated on social media last month showed a man on a motorcycle with a young boy, with the child in control of the vehicle. The man was slightly touching the steering wheel with his left hand.
The man was identified as an electrical and mechanical engineering employee at Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). Upon being discovered, he was presented to Maldives Police Service and the matter was escalated to the Transport Ministry for further actions.
Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan told Mihaaru News today that the man was fined MVR 2,000 under the Road Traffic Act. Transport Ministry also decided to detain the man's motorcycle for 30 days. The action was taken on the 22nd of last month, and the man is required to pay the fine within 30 days.
There was also a previous case of a baby being transported in the basket of a motorcycle. The case was investigated by Police at the time.
