Universal Enterprises Private Limited gifted MVR 100,000 to those affected by the heavy rain and flooding in capital Male' on Wednesday.

During a ceremony held at the National Disaster Management Center (NDMC), the aid was received by the Center's Project Coordinator Hisaan Hassan and Minister of Defence and National Security Mariya Mohamed Didi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mariya thanked Universal for their aid and revealed that Universal's Chairman sent a personal note expressing concern about those effected.

She added that they are revealing the total amounts received by companies to let the public know how much money is received and how it is being spent on.

Furthermore, Minister Mariya said that large amounts of money have to be spent during sudden disasters like this, noting that several companies have been offering to help.

Male' on Wednesday experienced over 200 millimetres of rain, which is a record number. Several houses, shops and families were effected by the consequent flooding.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has collected information from 90 houses and are making analysis based on it. According to them, after the analysis, they will be able to determine how to allocate funds for the affected households.
