Russia has become the leading source market for tourist arrivals in the Maldives during the first five days of the year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism.
Data reveals that 6,400 Russian tourists arrived during this period, accounting for 20 percent of total arrivals. Italy followed as the second-largest market, contributing 5,200 visitors.
The United Kingdom ranked third with 2,100 arrivals, while Germany secured fourth place with 2,000 tourists. India came in fifth with 1,100 visitors, and the 1,000 arrivals were recorded from the United States.
China, which was the top source market last year, now ranks ninth with 800 visitors so far. By the end of the previous year, a total of 260,000 Chinese tourists had visited the Maldives.
A total of 224,000 tourists visited Maldives last year, making it the second-largest source market for 2024.
Overall, the first five days of this year recorded 32,300 tourist arrivals, reflecting a 17 percent increase compared to the 27,000 arrivals during the same period last year.
This year’s budget anticipates 2.2 million tourist arrivals. At an event celebrating the two millionth tourist last year, Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal emphasized the goal of increasing arrivals by 15 percent in 2025. Achieving this target could see the Maldives welcoming 2.3 million tourists next year.
