Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has commended the Laamu Gan Police officer who led the investigation into a child sex offender that resulted in the perpetrator receiving a 40-year prison sentence.
Commissioner Hameed tweeted acknowledging the efforts of Senior Sergeant Hassan Adil from the police branch in Laamu atoll Gan for his excellent investigative work.
The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) on Wednesday charged Mohamed Shazleef from Kalaidhoo in Laamu atoll, with rape and making child pornography. He was found guilty of both charges, each carrying a 20-year sentence. The victim was a 17-year-old girl.
Cases involving children are investigated by the police’s Family and Child Protection unit, along with the local policing command where the crime took place.
