Commissioner of Police (CP) Mohamed Hameed, on Friday, revealed that the suspect apprehended on Thursday had confessed to fatally stabbing the taxi driver Gasim Hassan, in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
According to Maldives Police Service, officers attended to the scene following reports of the incident which occurred on December 4. Gasim, aged 59, was taken to Hulhumale' Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was reportedly stabbed in the neck and arm.
Authorities found the murder weapon roughly 300 meters from where Gasim's body was discovered. Analysis of the weapon found fingerprint and DNA evidence of the suspects.
CP Hameed disclosed that a press briefing will be held during the following week to update the public over the matter.
