The young team faced off against Turkmenistan in the first match of the championship held in Sri Lanka. Maldives lost the first two sets with 10-25 and 13-25, but showed better play in the last set. However, that set too was lost, by 25-27.
The second match was lost to Sri Lanka, with 14-25, 14-25 and 11-25. The next match against Nepal was lost with 5-25, 12-25 and 20-25. Playing against Uzbekistan, Maldives lost again with 12-25, 10-25, 16-25. The last match of this round was lost to Kyrgyzstan with 15-25, 21-25 and 19-25.
The team, coached by Mohamed Muneez, played against Sri Lanka in the ranking match. Sri Lanka won by 12-25, 20-25, 20-25.
Meanwhile, the senior team has now left to play in the CAVA Challenge Cup, which will be held from Friday to Thursday next week.
The captain of the senior team is Ismail Sajid (Kuda Kaattey), with Mohamed Sharaf as coach.
Competing in the championship are Maldives, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Nepal and Afghanistan.
The last tournament played by the volley team is the Indian Ocean Island Games held in Madagascar last year.
