Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) stated on Sunday that the opening of the new seaplane terminal has been delayed over incomplete private lounges.

MACL's General Manager Hassan Areef said that 99 percent of the work on the new seaplane terminal has now been completed. The delay in using the terminal is due to the incomplete finishing of the private lounges.

Hassan stated that Trans Maldivian Airlines (TMA) and Manta Airlines are working on their office area at the seaplane terminal. He assured that the operation of the terminal would not be delayed further.

The new seaplane terminal was previously scheduled to be operational in April. However, MACL has delayed its opening.

The new seaplane terminal, developed at a cost of USD 55 million (MVR 848 million), has a capacity of 28,000 square meters for lounge space and other purposes. The four-story terminal has 54 lounges. Development of the site was contracted to BUCG, a Chinese firm.

MACL said that the terminal will provide the best space for four operators. The lagoon area developed for the terminal will be able to serve 100 seaplanes at a time.
