Ministry of Islamic Affairs attests on collecting a total of MVR5.5 million as Zakat-al-Fitr from Greater Male' Region by Thursday, 28th April.
The ministry's Director of Communication Mr. Ismail Afrah told Mihaaru news that a total of 107,132 individuals from Greater Male' Region (Male' City, Hulhumale' and Vilimale') have paid Zakat.
Zakat is accepted via state's online payment portal, Bandeyri and Bank of Maldives' online payment portal along with m-Faisaa of Ooredoo Maldives and Dhiraagu Pay.
Additionally, the Fahi-Pay of Maldives Islamic Bank has been facilitated to collect Zakat from individuals, eligible to pay.
Furthermore, the ministry noted that the last hour of accepting Zakat-al-Fitr will be due by 18:00hrs of Saturday evening, 30th April.
Collection of Zakat from other residential islands, outside of Greater Male' Region, have been facilitated by the islands' respective councils.
Zakat-al-Fitr is an obligatory form of alms-giving from every able Muslim by the end of the Islamic sacred month of Ramadan.
