Bangladesh delivers 10 tonnes of food, medical supplies to Maldives

A Bangladeshi military aircraft, on Saturday, airlifted 10 tonnes of food supplies, medicine and medical equipment to Maldives.

The food supplies include onions, eggs, lentils, potatoes, cooking oil, pumpkin, watermelon and pineapple.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid expressed gratitude to the government and people of Bangladesh, particularly thanking the country's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen and the Bangladesh Air Force.

"It is a manifest reflection of the close friendship and the significant historic bonds that exist between our two brotherly nations", he said.

The aircraft departs Sunday along with 70 undocumented Bangladeshi workers. The repatriation effort will be collaboratively conducted with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Bangladesh High Commission.

Furthermore, the national flag carrier of Bangladesh, Biman Airlines transported essential equipment needed to complete the Hulhumale COVID Village Hospital as well as medical supplies during the early hours of Saturday.

On April 22, the Bangladehi government also provided medicine, medical equipment and necessary food products to aid Maldives' COVID-19 response.
