Ministry of Islamic Affairs on Thursday, announced its plans to unveil the King Salman Mosque (KSM) before the upcoming Islamic holy month of Ramadan on late April.
During a ceremony to handover renovation projects of various mosques in capital city Male' and reclaimed suburb Hulhumale', Islamic Ministry's Deputy Director-General Abdulla Azeez Ismail noted the mosques' development to be overseen by the President's Office.
"President's Office envisions to open the Mosque before Ramadan", said the Deputy Director-General, adding that the majority of the mosque was completed.
Initially scheduled for its public opening in July 2019, the mosque was delayed by the contractor due to difficulties in attaining required funds. The Turkish company Alke-Turmaks, which developed the Tree Top Hospital in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale', is constructing the mosque.
Set to become the largest mosque in the country, the mosque will be capable of housing 6,000 worshipers. The USD 24 million six-storey King Salman Mosque will consist of a multi-purpose hall, a library, Centre for the Holy Quran, classrooms and meeting rooms. The mosque is completely funded by the Saudi Kingdom.
