President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has embarked on his presidential campaign tour to Shaviyani Atoll, seeking re-election for a second term under the slogan "Ufaaveri, Amaan Raajje," which translates to "Happy, tranquil Maldives."
President Solih launched his campaign with the Adhaalath Party, a member of the ruling coalition, and the newly joined Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for September. President of Adhaalath Party, Home Minister Imran Abdulla, and leader of MDA, Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam also attended the campaign trip.
During the President's campaign in Shaviyani atoll, he first visited the island of Komandoo. He engaged with the people of the island, discussing his objectives for a second term and addressing their concerns.
Following his trip to Komandoo, President Solih is scheduled to visit Maroshi, Noomaraa and Foakaidhoo in the atoll. The one-day visit will conclude with a major rally in Foakaidhoo tonight.
In the parliamentary by-election held last year, the Komandoo constituency was won by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The government has made several promises to the constituency, including the implementation of a project to connect the two Komandoo islands as proposed by the local residents.
The President's campaign team has announced that he will visit all the islands of Maldives during his campaign, just as he did during his previous campaign tour. During these visits, President Solih will engage with the residents, explain the projects and initiatives implemented by his government during his current term, and listen to the concerns and requests of the people.
The opposition parties, including the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), have begun their presidential campaigns for the upcoming election. Despite former President Abdulla Yameen's disqualification from the election due to his conviction, PPM has chosen to maintain him as their presidential candidate. PPM is campaigning under the slogan "Dhivehinge Raajje" or "The People's Maldives".
Apart from MDP and PPM, the Maldives National Party (MNP) presidential candidate Mohamed Nazim is currently on his campaign tour in Haa Dhaalu atoll. The Democrats, who have expressed their intention to participate in the election, have yet to announce their candidate.
