Parliament has placed on agenda for Monday the pending issue of granting parliamentary approval to three Cabinet Ministers.

The three Cabinet Ministers were rejected by the 19th People's Majlis, which had an opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) majority.

These three Ministers are Minister for Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Attorney General Ahmed Usham, and Minister for Housing, Land and Urban Planning Dr Ali Haidar.

From the 22 Cabinet Ministers that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu appointed to his cabinet, MDP released a whip in parliament calling for four to be rejected. Of these, three ended up not getting parliamentary approval during the vote.

In a matter of hours following the parliamentary rejection, President Muizzu reappointed all three persons to their previous posts. The names were resent to parliament for approval.

The matter remained pending at the parliament till date.

The 20th Parliament was sworn in on May 28, with an overwhelming supermajority of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).

If debate on the issue is completed tomorrow, voting for approval will proceed tomorrow as well.

Besides this, the agenda includes the appointment of a member from the parliament to the Judicial Services Commission.
