Former running champion and current coach at the Naseer Sports Academy (NSA), Naseer Ismail has been offered the opportunity to undertake a coaching education course at Scottish Athletics, the national athletics administration of Scotland.

According to the letter delivered by the Head of Performance of Scottish Athletics, Mark Pollard, Naseer was presented the chance under a project commenced to assist Maldives in advancing athletics in the country.

"I invite Naseer Ismail to visit Scotland and gain experiences under MAP (Maldives Athletics Project). I hope you achieve the following results during this trip." read the letter sent by Pollard, subsequently highlighting five different points.

The letter assured that Naseer will learn to utilize Scotland's athletic experience to further progress Maldives under this program.

In order to complete the program, Naseer is required to make efforts to improve the performance of Maldivian athletes using the knowledge and experience he gains through this program.

"Working to improve the athletic standards of Maldives under a long-term plan of 10 years," the letter stated, elaborating on the work Naseer must embark on following the trip of MAP education.

Some goals Naseer must achieve under MAP

- Working to build exposure and gain more opportunity for Maldives athletics in collaboration with Scottish Athletics

- To focus on training coaches in order to allow for the continuation of the plan in a sustainable manner

- Aim to achieve personal and national goals

Naseer will be offered the chance to gain experience from the national training given to coaches and training sessions offered to athletes of the Scottish Athletics under this program.

Sports Science Expert of Scotland, Nigel Hetherington had met with Naseer before concluding his vacation in Maldives last month.

Scotland possesses the most successful athletics system renowned worldwide. Scottish athletes have brought home victory in the recent World Athletics Championship and Indonesia World Athletic Championship as well.

Naseer stated that this opportunity granted by the Scottish Athletics was an opportunity for advancement for the athletics field in the entire nation, and not just to him alone as an individual.

"I do not believe this is an opportunity given to me only. This is an opportunity for Maldivian athletics. Scotland is one the most successful countries in the word and commonwealth. I want the benefits of this program to be reaped by Maldivian athletes. This is an opportunity for Maldives," said Naseer.
