A vessel carrying fuel traveling from Thilafushi had caught fire amid trip.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said they received the report around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, September 27.
The authority said it had been working to extinguish the fire which had fully engulfed the vessel.
MNDF also said the fire broke out when the vessel was inside Thilafushi lagoon. The vessel had been transferred outside of the industrial island's bay with MNDF Fire and Rescue team on site to control the flames.
No injuries or casualties have been reported as a result of the incident.
The vessel had loaded fuel from Villa's fuel farm and had begun its trip when it suddenly caught fire. However, the cause of the fire has not been determined so far.
A witness on site said that the fire first broke out from the vessel's engine compartment.
As of now, the vessel's name and its proprietor have not been confirmed.
