The Speaker of Maldives Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed on Friday, July 22, leaves for Seychelles on an official trip.

His trip to the country comes from a direct invitation from his Seychelles counterpart, Roger Mancienne.

Nasheed will reportedly stay at the island destination during his official visit until Thursday, July 28.

Apart from his scheduled meeting with Speaker Mancienne, Nasheed is expected to visit the island nation's parliament establishment.

The speakers are expected to discuss strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries among other important matters during Nasheed's visit.

In a statement, Maldives Parliament's secretariat reveals the similarities shared by the two Indian Ocean archipelagos; highlighting the similar challenges faced by the countries as well.

The statement made emphasis on the similar goals and aspirations by the Maldives and Seychelles towards development.

The official invitation letter from Seychelles' Speaker Mancienne had further highlighted the importance of the two countries working together in compliance with the various conventions and treaties they are a part of, and provide support to one another.
