Addu's Abdulla Afeef Didi's son was elected as the Deputy President of Seychelles, following the success of Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) coalition in the country's recent presidential elections, which commenced last Thursday.

According to the temporary voting results, the coalition's Presidential Candidate Wavel Ramkalawan and Running Mate Ahmed Afeef secured 55 percent of the vote.

Ahmed Afeef is the son of Abdulla Afeef, who sought asylum in Seychelles with British assistance, after the state punished him for establishing a shortlived beak-away nation in the South named the Suvadive Republic, comprising of Addu Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Gaafu Alif Atoll and Fuvahmulah.

Since then Abdulla Afeef's family has lived in Seychelles, although his family occasionally visits Maldives to spend time with their relatives in Addu.

As per information from Seychelles' national websites, Ahmed Afeef served in the country's central bank for a long period of time in addition to filling out various official position a well. He was elected to the Seychelles' Parliament, National Assembly, in 2016.
