The European Union (EU) Counter Terrorism Coordinator Gilles De Kerchove paid a courtesy call on the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel on Tuesday.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Welcoming Coordinator Kerchove to Maldives, Khaleel exchanged views on further enhancing cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism between the Maldives and the EU.
State Minister Khaleel was accompanied by Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, Director of Foreign Ministry Shiuneen Rasheed and Desk Officer Mohamed Shujau.
Ambassador of EU Tung-Lai Margue, European Union External Action (EEAS)'s Head of Counter Terrorism Division John Gatt-Rutter, EEAS' Deputy Head of South Asia Division Ivo Schutte, and Maldives Political Officer at EU Delegation Reema Mohamed accompanied Kerchove during the meeting.
On his two-day official visit to Maldives, Kerchove will meet with top officials within the government to discuss counter-terrorism challenges and future EU support to combat terrorism in the island nation.
