Court orders taxi driver accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Hulhumale' Phase 2 to be kept in police custody for three days while police investigates the case.
Police said on Tuesday that Hulhumale' Court granted the police a period of three days to keep the 41 year old Maldivian in remand.
The case was reported to the police on Sunday, where a 20 year old Maldivian woman accused the taxi driver of taking her to Hulhumale' Phase 2 against her wishes, and sexually assaulted her there.
Mihaaru news reported that the woman got in the taxi from a house in Henveiru, Male' to go to another house in Maafannu, Male'. Once the woman got in, the man allegedly locked all the doors of the car and took her to a beach in Hulhumale.
A video had circulated on social media showing how the man was apprehended.
Police said they were investigating this case.
