Theft from STELCO's substation has been an ongoing issue.
Authorities yesterday apprehended a 32 year old local male in suspicion of stealing cables from State Electric Company Limited (STELCO)'s substation.
The incident took place last Tuesday at the substation near Majeedhiyya School, and was reported to Maldives Police Service at around 06:21 hrs that morning.
Following the arrest, the suspect was presented at Criminal Court where he was ordered to be remanded in custody for 15 days.
With the suspect in custody, police continue to investigate the case.
Theft from STELCO substations was a significant issue during last Ramadan as well, with one dying from electrocution while trying to steal cables.
