Maldives Media Council (MMC) has received over 80 nominations for this year's journalism awards.
While the deadline for nominations expired on Wednesday, the council announced it had received 88 nominations across 18 categories. The awards aim to recognize and encourage excellence in journalism. The categories include:

- Social Sector
- Political Sector
- Judicial and Legal Sector
- Business and Economics
- Sports Sector
- Photojournalism
- Video Documentary
- Graphics and Illustration
- Feature Report
- History and Culture
- Arts and Entertainment
- Environment and Sustainable Development
- Audio Journalism
- Promising Journalist Award
- Journalist of the Year
- Best Coverage of the Year
MMC stated that it has received nominations for all categories except Audio Journalism and Best Atoll Production.
The categories Best Coverage of the Year, Audio Journalism, and Best Atoll Production for newspapers from islands outside the Greater Male' Region are new additions this year.
Journalism Awards, first introduced in 2013, will hold this year's ceremony in August, with a specific date yet to be announced.
