Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives confirms preparing the laboratory at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) capable of testing for monkeypox.
HPA attests that contagious disease testing has to be amply readied, for which the largest public hospital is preparing its laboratories.
Preparations of the laboratory involve setting up appropriate testing equipment and kits. HPA attests IGMH will be procuring additional testing kits and equipment.
Although HPA made confirmation of IGMH currently in progress of bringing its laboratory up to date, the authority made no confirmation of the exact date of completion.
The most recent viral pandemic, already declared as such by the World Health Organization (WHO) is usually frequent among homosexual men.
Earlier in July 23, WHO had declared a global health emergency following the fast-paced spread of the contagion.
A total of 90 countries report a combined total of 30,000 positive cases of monkeypox.
Meanwhile, WHO has donated 250 test kits to the Maldivian government to test for the disease.
Earlier, a local male was suspected of carrying the virus. However, upon relevant tests, the patient tested negative to the contagion.
