Health Protection Agency's (HPA) statistics show that there has been a slight increase in recorded Covid-19 positive cases over the past three months, as testing decreases.
While the past three months show an increase in Covid positivity rate from 2.04 percent in July to 2.56 percent in September, testing has also decreased in these three months. In July 177,863 people tested and 3,634 people tested positive. While167,681 samples were tested in August for Covid, 3,524 results were positive, and in September only 144,598 samples were tested while 3,697 were positive results.
The decrease in testing had lead to an increase in positivity rate from 2.04 percent in July to 2.10 percent in August to 2.56 percent in September. However there is a difference of 33,265 in total samples tested in July and September.
According to the statistics posted by HPA on September 30, 339,481 people in Maldives have been fully vaccinated while 52,434 more people have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Under the recommendation of Technical Advisory Group on Immunization, HPA is also preparing to provide booster shots to certain groups. This include high risk people and frontline workers as well.
Booster shots will only be provided to people that got the Pfizer vaccine.
