The Elections Commission (EC) on Tuesday held discussions with Maldives Police Services on security arrangements for next year's presidential election.
The Police website said EC Chairman Fuad Thaufeeq and members of the commission met with Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed and senior officials of the institution to ensure the security and safety measures for the presidential elections.
They also discussed the EC's security requirements from the Police.
The Elections Commission earlier announced the recruitment of 11 temporary staff for various tasks in time for the presidential election.
A date for the presidential election would be announced before the end of this month, according to the commission.
The State Budget for 2023 has allocated MVR 90 million for the presidential election. However, according to the Elections Commission an additional MVR 30 million would be required if a second ballot is to be held.
