Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) revealed that Velana International Airport (VIA) broke a new record on runway movements on January 5.
Per statistics publicised by the airport, a total of 252 flight movements were recorded.
On this day, seaplane movements broke records as well, reporting 599 recorded flight movements.
Combining both aeroplanes and seaplane movements, the figure rises to 811.
In 2019, the record was broken thrice, the first of which being in February with 219 flights. Then, on December 1 with 226 flights and for a third time on December 22, with 239 flights.
MACL urged those flying to complete their check-in process as soon as possible. They further assured that passenger safety is their utmost priority.
All the records that were broken in 2019, as well as the newly set record, took place on a Sunday.
