The meeting of the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee in which the members are meeting with officials from the Ministry of Finance to discuss the State's financial and economic status has been held closed.
Minister of Finance Dr Mohamed Shafeeq excused himself from today's meeting citing health related reasons. Committee Chair Gasim Ibrahim said that the Minister had submitted the necessary information for the meeting in writing.
Minister Shafeeq had previously requested that the meeting be closed to public. Hence, a vote was taken in today's meeting to hold the session closed when discussing the information submitted by the minister. The vote was unanimously in favour of the motion.
The meeting was held in relation to Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim's earlier call to reveal the actual economic situation of the country without waiting until it was time to present the budget for the coming year.
