Team Sayyid wins first place in the newly introduced “Marhaba Cup” team event in the National Junior Surfing Championship.
A total of four teams competed in the team event. They are Team Sayyid, Team Yasin, Team Shanif and Team Kai. Three surfers competed in each team.
Team Sayyid, who finished first, included Sayyid Salahuddin, Nooh Mohamad Duneim Irshad and Raain Hashim.
"A team event was included in the junior section this time to give these kids a chance to experience it,” Maldives Surfing Association’s (MSA) Vice President Shahid Ameen said.
"This time, we organised the team event not with the intention of competing and ranking at the national level. It's the youngsters who are here to lead the way in the future. When you go to the senior level, there will be team events. We think it's important to make the children aware by the time they get to that point."
Team Sayyid secured first place in the team event during a competitive tournament, scoring a total of 18 points. Team Yasin secured the second place with a score of 17.45 points. Team Shanif, which included senior surfers and initially led the competition, finished at third place with a total score of 16.05 points.
