Thaa Atoll Madifushi Magistrate Court has on Thursday sentenced a man to 27 years in prison on a conviction of bringing in drugs to the island.
The sentence was given to Hussain Sharoon of Dhonvelige, Thaa Atoll Madifushi.
Police media officials said that on February 5, they had received intelligence reports and intercepted Sharoon at the island's harbour as he was returning to Madifushi. After a search, he was apprehended then, for being in possession of drugs that he was intending to bring in to the island.
Police confirmed that Sharoon has been found guilty, and sentenced to 27 years, 11 months and 20 days in prison.
