Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) has said that it has been receiving complaints regarding some colleges and universities offering online courses without obtaining permission for e-learning and asserted that action will be taken against such establishments.
In an announcement issued yesterday, the MQA said that the permission granted to all higher education institutions to conduct online courses has now been revoked.
The authority notified on the gazette the 'Programme Accreditation Rules' and 'Guidelines for E-Learning Rules' on May 16, 2022.
The MQA said colleges and universities will have to submit programmes as per the rules and seek permission. The authority also asks students to ensure that the programme is approved by them before commencement of studies. They elaborated that they would not accept any qualification obtained from a programme that is not accredited.
It had also been notified earlier that if colleges and universities advertise and run courses in violation of the regulations laid down by the MQA, action would be taken against them under the Programme Accreditation Rules
