The 10th National Scout Jamboree, themed 'Leadership for Change,' is set to take place in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, from February 20-26, 2024.

Within the international contingent, a total of 242 participants from the Maldives including 205 Maldivian scouts make up the largest group taking part in the event, symbolizing the strong bonds of friendship and brotherhood between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef emphasized the significance of scouting in fostering camaraderie and mutual understanding during a meeting held with the participants of the event at Ghiyasuddin International School. Recognizing the importance of such activities, he assured that the government would strive to create an encouraging environment for scouting within schools, highlighting the significant role scouting plays in shaping the character of the youth.

The Vice President extended his best wishes for success in the Jamboree and emphasized the need to uphold Maldivian values while representing the Maldives abroad. He further highlighted the importance of maintaining good behavior, ethics, friendship, and unity. Additionally, he encouraged scouts to be mindful of their prayers, time management, and to show respect for their superiors.

During the meeting, the Vice President expressed gratitude for the dedication of scout leaders in organizing events like the Scout Jamboree. Highlighting their crucial role in guiding and shaping the youth, he recognized their contribution to societal progress.

Set against the theme 'Leadership for Change,' the Jamboree aims to provide opportunities to the Scouts to gain experience, while participating in different types of activities which fulfill the educational objectives and the real meaning of the Scout Method, Principles of Scouting, the Scout Promise and Law through this gathering with the view to make a Better World.

With a team of committed leaders from national and district levels, the Jamboree aims to fulfill its mission of creating opportunities for scouts to develop and improve their knowledge, creativity, skills, talents, behavior, and socialization based on the Scout Promise and Law.

The Jamboree's objectives align with the broader goals of World Scouting, focusing on embracing fellowship and brotherhood, experiencing fun and excitement, and expanding hearts and minds through the pursuit of knowledge. After an eight-year hiatus, the event will feature a day's program for Cubs and a week-long camping experience for scouts.

Vice President Hussain’s remarks echo the sentiment of the Maldives’ commitment to fostering the holistic development of its youth.
